Exclamation FCM or Radiator Fans?

I've seen sites discussing Fan Control Modules shorting out, but very little on how to test the actual fans themselves. I tried to find help on Justanswers.com and found very little. How can I test the fans, could someone possible post pictures of what the set up would be using jumper cables? I don't have an OBD and would prefer not to spend 150 on an FCM just to have it short out or 125 to go to the dealer to get the codes read.

The car is a 2002 1.8t. Fans used to run super fast on cold starts after two years of ownership, then the a/c started blowing hot air, and I started overheating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well i assume for one that your car is in the upper milleage between 70 and 100. ODds are ur waterpump went out if ur overheating. Not a great idea to drive around when that light starts buzzing you. If u can either take ur car to autozone and they scan the cars for free. and when ur fans short out they stay on after u turn off the car. So if ur fans turn off after u turn off the car then thats not ur problem as fan problems normally end up being the ecu shorting due to water leakage into the housing of the ecu.
