When I am doing parallel parking, my steering wheel is very hard to turn. It feels like manual steering; not a power steering. What could be wrong? It feels ok while driving the car.

Mine is a 2004 3.0q.

In front of ur engine if u pop off ur cover there should be a hose with alot of black gunk round it. IF so cut off that clamp and replace. there tends to be a small leak from that area hense the black gunk. If not then ur ps pump is failing.

when was the power steering fluid last changed? i bet it's your fluid. the louder you hear your power steering pump whine, the worse the fluid is and the more likely that you'll damage the pump. check the PS fluid and change it before the pump gets damaged.

same thing happened with my lexus and i just ignored it and the steering got harder and harder. i changed the fluid but it was too late-the pump was damaged.

 

quit turning the wheels with the car stationary. If your car is making a whinning noise, you need a new pump/rack.

 

I did a power steering fluid flush today and it all good now. Thanks for all your help.
