gearbox: loose bearings?

gearbox: loose bearings?
is it safe to drive on? Mechanic says the bearings on my multitronic gearbox on the right is loose and should fix it... he stuck his hand in there and can wiggle the bearing around somewhat
anybody familiar with this issue?
