Default Need an opinion on this cel

Hey la gang,

I've been driving around with a cel for the past 5 days with absolutely nothing wrong except this.... I thought I'd clean out the MAF and see if this would turn off the Check engine light and I noticed that the Small hose that is "supposed to be" attached to the breather was disconnected. I reattached it but I'm wondering now if this is what triggered the CEL. Would anyone know the answer to this question?

Cheers and Thanks

Yeah well, here in Canada they charge you to Vag it so I thought I'd ask here first.

Maybe there is some dirt or you didnt connect your MAF properly. Maybe it has nothing to do with the MAF at all.

It probably has nothing to do with the MAF because I thoroughly cleaned it and gently placed it back in. I also checked the gas cap and it's on tight. Other than that I can only reason that the snall hose coming out of the filter box triggered a sensor somewhere.... I found a buddy of mine in Ottawa who can vag it... We'll see what the codes say this afternoon

Thanks for the help

Ok so I went and had another look under the hood.... Two things

1. I did some research and found out that I may need to tighten the knock sensor soooo, I went looking for it. The knock sensor is not where everyone says it is which is on or under the intake manifold. I looked at some on the forum of the IM and it seems that on the B5 the manifold has a fews things connected to it

See also

where they can be easily accessed. Soo I took a look at my B6 and this is what I realized.

1. There are no connections at the top of the IM like in the previous pic. On my B6 (first of the 02's) it seems that the only thing connected to the manifold where it can be easily accessed is a vacuum line. I think that the KS is under the manifold and connected directly to the block. If it is, it's VERY hard to get at without having to remove a bunch of things. Not sure about this. Can anyone confirm with a pic please.

2. When I took a closer look at everything I noticed that the vacuum line mentioned above was broken at the point where it connected to the IM so I cut the end off and refitted it onto the IM..... Can ayone tell me if this once leaky vac line could have been what triggerred all these faults and finally the CEL???

I hope someone can help.... I am at a bit of a loss here.

Default Update

A few days ago I replaced the worn out vac line with a new one and cleared the CEL.. It was an EXTREMELY EASY DIY and since then the CEL has not come back I think that not having the proper pressure in the engine eventually led to offsetting other components of the engine thereby triggering the CEL. God I'm glad I took the time and effort to research this because I can only imagine what the dealership or even another mechanic would have told me to rack up the cost. All in all it only cost me 14 dollars in parts

Cheers
