Default Had my timing belt done

So I had a guy I know do my timing belt since the car has 95k miles and it hadnt been done. The guy is a mechanic and has worked on everything from high performance japanese cars to high performance euro cars, and boring domestic stuff too. He has done quite a few 1.8t belts. Anyway, i just thought i would let you guys know that he started the car at about 8 AM, called me at 10 and said he was ready for the parts (i hadnt taken them to him yet), i went by at about 12 to drop the parts and the car was completely apart, then he called me at 3 to let me know he was ready for me to bring him the coolant and power steering fluid. Took those to him at 4 and left with the car at about 5.

Thats right, he finished the car in 9 hours, and would have finished a lot sooner if he wouldnt have had to wait for the parts, probably in 5 hours. Just keep that in mind next time the dealer tells you they want 1200 to do this job. And he only charged me 350 labor. Add the 250 for parts and the whole thing is done and i can rest easy for 600 bucks.

If youre close to Tyler TX and need a timing belt let me know and ill give you his info.

That's awesome! It's always nice when you know a honest mechanic that knows what he's doing

If you work on these things all the time, you'll find that his times were even long. Dealers rape. But for a strong DIY for someone who knows the car well, it's not that long of a job.
