Could be a dirty throttle body.. Try removing it and cleaning it as well as cleaning the MAF (mass airflow sensor)

Cleaned it all spotless and it's still doing the samething. Now im gearing towards the coolant temp sensor and the thermostat. But since the thermostat is electronic im leaning more towards the coolant temp sensor. Anyone have a how-to on replacing this?? Thanks.

Had similar problems with my 1.8TQ. Eventually I found out that the problem was coming from the key. It had low power for the immobilizer. Had to get a new key. Check if the immobilizer led flashes on your dashboard, when the car fails to start.

 

Noticed a lot of the people in this thread have 2003's.

Fuel pump recall.

 

Is there a place you can go to on the web to see if all the recalls have been performed on your car??

 

Did anyone ever determine if it was the ECT? Im sure everyone's aware they released the notice that Audi is covering the ECT till 100,000.

 

I know this may be a dumb question but what is the ECT??
