Help.. Buying my first Audi
Hey Guy,
I'l new here, I am looking on info to buy and audi. My current car is a BMW 330Ci Steptronic. It's a great car, but I want a stick.
I'm looking for an A4 probably 2001 and up.
What are the common issue with these cars?
What should I looking for when buying one?
What should have been change already before I buy the car?
How hard is it to mod it to get some more HP/TQ out of it?
I'm selling my 330, and I'm looking to spent at least $11-14K.
What am I looking at.
Thanks

one of the biggest issues with the a4's once they start getting up in miles is the timing belt and water pump i believe which normally goes with it. These should be changed at about 90-95k by audi, but everybody recommends changing them around 80-85k as there are no hints as to when they are going to go and can cause some serious engine damage if they do go. This usually costs about 1-1.5g at a dealership to change. This is once of the biggest things you should look at when buying a used audi. Another thing is to service records. Make sure the previous owner has changed the oil at least every 10k and has used fully synthetic oil otherwise there could be some build up of sludge in the engine... obviously with a manual you need to check out worn the clutch and when they last replaced it if they have but i am not sure how to do that on your own except my actually using the clutch and just getting a feel for how much resistance the clutch gives back, the more the better.
as for tuning the car to get more hp/tq out of your car, it is really easy and there are many different options you can go with. The first thing that everybody says to do in the forum is to put a chip in your car. This is the easiest and most effective way to get more hp/tq out of your car, and there are different stages depending on how much more power you want and how much you want to spend.
for up to $14k you are probably looking up to perhaps an '04 depending on how many miles the car has on it and what different packages the car is equipped with.
good luck with purchasing your first a4
