Unhappy Hose Removal From Fuel Filter-Possible?

Got the tank side off. Can't figure out motor side. Pic attached. Mine have two small slots, but insertion of small screwdrivers ineffective. ?????????

Hose clamps would be too easy, right?

Any help appreciated.

i remember having a tough time at first. just stay patient and persistent. on mine (02 3.0 quattro), the hoses each had a white band (only partially visible) on the bottom of each hose where it met with the filter. the trick was squeezing that, move it forward, and then pull back. just don't get angry and manhandle it. i'm sure you'll get it after a couple tries. let us know how it goes. good luck

Hey, Rockitdoc. While I was never aware there were two filters....the front looks just like the one I took off a few weeks ago near the tank. Try using some pliers to squeeze (if I remember correctly). There should be a collar-like piece near the end of the hose. While you do this, push the hose into the filter, to ensure you're getting the whole collar. Once the'yre removed, they **** out very little fuel; really it's the filter itself you've got to worry about

Thumbs down

Got it done...what but what a hassle!!!!!

The pipe that connects the filter to the front fuel line would not go back on new filter without leaking. WOuldn't snap in place. Cost to replace, if the dealer had had one....$114.

Replaced it with a section of 3/8" fuel line and two hose clamps. $2 at Checker.

Not sure it was worth it. Dealer wanted $200 including the filter. I paid $40 for the filter from webparts, but it cost me 4 hrs of my time. And my time is worth more than $40/hr.

That sucks man. Typically you can change the filter in like 5 minutes.

It took me also several hours of frustration when I replaced the filter on my B6. Once the filter was out I saw what needed to be done and felt... stupid, but now that I know how I can replace the filter in no time.

I can, now. What a learning curve! Didn't need to learn this lesson, though. My car has 125k miles, first filter change, and overdue (was making those groaning noises). I'll leave the next filter for the next owner at 250k miles. That'll be 5 yrs from now, and I will have forgotten how.
