Fuel pump internal return hose removal?

Fuel pump internal return hose removal?
02 2.7 TQ A6 6 spd 88K
I am replacing the Fuel pump and need advice about the internal return hose. The VDO replacement hose that has a right angle fitting that attaches inside the tank to another part of a plastic body. I have no clue how to get the old hose off and fear causing damage. Does it turn 90 degrees? Should I reuse the original hose and attach to the new pump inside cover?
