My Audi A4 Avant 2003 has power folding mirrors, activated by a button in the door on the driver side. I want to change the electronics, so the mirrors automatically fold when switching off the ignition key, and so the mirrors automatically unfold on turning on the ignition key (just like the radio does). I don't have two left hands, but I'm not an expert on (digital) electronics. Can anybody help me?

I spent a few days trying to hack this. I was thinking that if my A4 has the ability to fold the mirrors in manually it should be a simple matter of intercepting the switch. What I concluded is although you can simulate this by shorting together pins 2 and 4 of the switch, the car must send a CAN bus command to the door module that prohibits the windows or the mirrors when the key is off. So what you would have to do is somehow intercept the "off" message and delay it for 2 seconds while your mirrors are folding inward. Not a trivial task, since I'm sure Audi is not about to divulge source code for that door module.
