My 2002 1.8T Avant will not lock with the key, but the locking system works fine with the fob. I pulled the door panel and found that there is a little torsion rod that connects the cylinder with the actuator. There is a little paddle at the end of the rod that fits into a slot on the actuator. Mine is not connected, likely the result of some collision work I had done a long time ago. Anyway, there is not enough clearence to bend the rod into the slot. The only way I can see that it would work would be to remove the outside door handle. Anyone done this? Thanks.
