Default humming/droning noise, need help!

hey guys my 02 a4 1.8T is making this humming/droning noise, coming from midsection underneath the car. doesnt matter whether its driving or just idling. it's also at times accompanied by a slight hissing noise.

any ideas? i used to get this last winter as well but it would go away after a while. is it the exhaust? or transmission?

thanks

If it's a hissing noise is probably something with your exhaust, if it's a humming noise probably clutch bearing.

thanks! i was just browsing around the forum and it seemed like it could be a problem w/ the fuel pump as well?
i know there's tons of things that could go wrong here and i'm taking it to the dealer in a couple of days...just wanted to hear from ppl other than the dealership first so i know what to expect.

i never had this problem when the weather was warmer tho...stupid cold front...

The humming noise is normally under your rear passenger seat.

could ur be fuelfilter. Located near more towards the front of the passenger side rear tire. U can lift ur rear set up by pulling on it and seeing if it is the fuel pump or filter. Process of elimination.

yea man i just got mine replaced... its the Fuel pump or filter.....it happens on start up and when your car warms up it goes away some times right??? i have a pre-own so it only cost me 50$ for the service...so idk how much it would cost you.... but im 99% sure that its the pump or filter..good luck

well i have a pre own so it didn't cost me anything.... the dealership covered the cost.... but i would think labor is 100$ + an hr and the parts have to be at least 50+ .......

got back from the dealership a couple of days ago. they diagnosed it as a bad fuel pump as other had suggested. labor (forgot the hourly rate but im in pittsburgh, pa) and parts (pump + filter) came out to be over $650...
