Well the 3.0L is an A6 engine and the 2.8L has less power. Its best just to put in another 3.0L engine. Why do you need a new one, did the timing belt break? I have torn apart hundreds of 3.0L motors with blown timing belts, most of the time you just need new cylinder heads. Which should run you around $6,000 installed at the dealer.

Default rebuild engine

I have to rebuild my engine b/c i brought my car to the dealership with the check engine light on. 3 months and 5g's later I towed my car out with the motor in my truck. Dealership mechanics dont know what they are doing and denied any wrong doing. Fun fact: in june I had a timing belt installed. My new mechanic thinks the original problem was the head gasket

Now you lost me, is the timing belt in tact? What could the dealer have done to blow the engine? A bad head gasket!? Your new mechanic is a moron if he thinks a blown headgasket will take out an engine. It would have to be leaking an insane amount of coolant in the cylinder to hydrolock the motor, and even then you would only be looking at bent valves in which case you would only have to change the fvcking valves or change the head.
