Question To make my A4 purrrr with extra HP

I just bought an 02 1.8T quattro and I am debating whether to adjust the exhaust or put a chip on the car. I want to ++ some HP and +fuel efficiency would be nice but not essential.
Most importantly, I want to increase the sound of the engine coming out of the pipes. I don't want it to sound like a Honda with those weak mufflers on them, but I want to increase the purrrrr of the engine becuase I love the sound of that turbo charger. How can I increase the sound with the most cost effective way? THANKS!

You want fuel economy, go buy a hybrid. Flashing the ECU is a must, no question about it. Find the closest dealer and go with their program. Chances are you will be going there more than once. Most ecu flashes "chips" are about the same. Exhaust there are many options, you can go custom or pick a brand name full exhaust.

Default Neuspeed Exhaust

I was thinking of a neuspeed exhaust, I got a buddy with one and the clips on youtube really make that exhaust sound nice. Am I looking at around a grand for a neuspeed exhaust?
