Default On the Market for an A4 (B6) need expert advise?

Guys, first off...I want to thank you in advance for anyone who will take some time out to answer some of my questions or give me some suggestions.

I currently do not have an Audi and in the Market for one. I use to own a 2001 TT and a 1998 A4 and been itching to get back into another Audi. Due to my budget and the fact that the B6 (02-05 year) model has now dropped in price quite a bit, I really want one now.

But I do have a few questions:

1. what year is recommended?
2. what should I look for when looking at a car?
3. when should timing belt and tune be done?
4. is 60k miles or more consider way too high?
5. how reliable is the turbo?
6. should i get the 1.8T or 2.0?
7. quattro or front wheel drive?
8. if there is anything else.. please advise.

thanks.

It really depends if the maintenance has been kept up(look for records)
5. how reliable is the turbo?

The B6 Model is only available in 1.8, B7 came with the 2.0T
7. quattro or front wheel drive?
Quattro
8. if there is anything else.. please advise.

thanks.
Sorry, answers are brief, i'm pretty new to the community, just looking to help.

04.5-05's are probably the better buy since the come in 6 speed and painted lowers. Also the USP package was available. Timing belt should be done before 75k miles for peace of mind. Everything in the car is pretty reliable if well maintained, the turbo is watercooled so unless the car got really beat on you shouldn't worry bout it til at least 120k miles, although there are guys who have ran the stock K03s up until 200,000! If you can afford a B7 that would be dope. Although I'm not a big fan of the body style that 2.0t FSI engine is QUICK. Look at many, many A4's before you buy. You'll get a good feel for what they're worth and what shape they should be in

The B7 is a nice set up but I'm not jazz about the body styling. That's why I'm looking at the B6. Thanks for the great feedback, I'll will look into 4.5-05 B6 models. As for the painted lowers, I'm not too concern about that since I'm gonna put in a full kit. Probably an Otto body kit to really give the car that lower stance.

So does the Turbo need to be replace out at 120k miles?

Just go BT from the start and you wont have to worry about replacing the K03

My IMHO
1. what year is recommended?
05 is the most reliable, but honestly it all depends on a previous owner
2. what should I look for when looking at a car?
What exactly was done to the car, how often were the oil changes (what oil)
3. when should timing belt and tune be done?
Around 75K miles, also a water pump +tensioner
4. is 60k miles or more consider way too high?
For the car- its ok, for the timing belt- you should be fine for another 10000 miles or so

5. how reliable is the turbo?
Reliable as long as it wasnt abused much. dont turn off your car immediately after a HARD driving, dont go over 2700 rpms before your oil warms up.
6. should i get the 1.8T or 2.0?
2.0 is more powerful but less mods, 1.8t is more popular in a DUB world.
7. quattro or front wheel drive?
Well, quttro=awd, fwd=fwd its up to u, if u live in rain/snow state than AWD would be the best choice.
8. if there is anything else.. please advise.
Get as many info about the car you buing as possible (receipts/maintance and etc.)

There is a new 2871r Stage 3 kit for the 2.0 that makes 373chp. That's badass

1. what year is recommended? Ithink it depends. I bought a 2002, and it ended up being a 2001.5. Don't know what year is best
2. what should I look for when looking at a car? Like they said...maintainance, car fax.. Lots of gremlins!!!
3. when should timing belt and tune be done? I chenged mine when I bought it at 92K. When they gave me the old belt, I inspected it and it was DUE! Lots of small dry cracking and some wear. I see now why they say to do it. Order your own parts!!!
4. is 60k miles or more consider way too high? I don't think so... Mine has 92k and runs like a top.
5. how reliable is the turbo? I hope reliabale!!!!
6. should i get the 1.8T or 2.0?
7. quattro or front wheel drive? I drove both and the Quattro is SOOoo worth it!
8. if there is anything else.. please advise.
Check the oil cooler. They break/leak over time. Check the oil color of the oil that is in there. Dirty or not? Play with ALL of the electronics before you hand them a check! Tires, brakes, hoses belts etc all adds up. I looked really hard at mine. I also had to do a lot to it!!

Good luck!
