Maybe spark plugs or coil packs?
ive never heard of Autozone or Pepboys having coilpacks for our cars...
OP, any Audi or VW dealers should have them. Get the R (revision R) coil!!!
obviously, they should be cheaper at the VW dealer.
or get one online if u dont drive your car

no they dont rent anymore equipment at autozone. I havent tried the spark plugs yet they look good to me but ill switch them out just in case. So if its the catalytic converter what am i looking at trouble and money wise.
Holy **** guys,
This is not brain surgery. Drifter, got to Autozone or the dealership, bite the bullet and buy yourself 4 new coilpacks and plugs, get yourself a good socket set and install them yourself. There are lots of tutorials on how to do it.

Brands were already suggested. The dealer (vw or audi) if you need to drive the car, or ecstuning.com if you can park it for a fee days.
Try leaving your engine cover off from now on. Mines been off since I replaced a coilpack last year and I've had no other problems with them.

I also have had similar problems.
Solution is simple, change all the coilpacks at one time. The old coil packs should not be run with new coil packs, thats the insider info.
Make sure your catalytic converter is okay (it was glowing because the gas was not burning in engine but at the converter) due to a bad coil. The catalytic converter may require change if the metal inside it is burnt. Its only function is to burn the unburnt fuel so dont worry about it.
