Call me crazy, but you're getting codes that say misfire in cyl 1-3-2-4, your dealer did plugs and coilpacks in cyl 2-3-5-6? Am I the only one who thinks they missed something?

I would venture that if you simply do all 6 plugs and all 6 coils that you'l be in good shape. Plugs and a couple coils are cheap and easy to do yourself.

 

The coil pack & plugs were replaced 6 months ago after the engine cleaning. All 6 have been checked by the dealer & Audi service tech, the coil packs are not the problem. I have seen the fly wheel bearing and parts from the other A4 6 speed, not a cheep repair so I'm not ready to go down that path yet. I will let you know what I find out this week.

Whatever floats your boat man, when you do find the problem, don't say i didn't tell ya.

 

X2 on it, coil packs, all of them since you got them wet before. Good luck whatever route you take.

 

Certainly easy enough to test the coilpacks yourself. Just swap them all from one bank to another and see if the misfire codes move to the two cylinders you weren't getting misfires on before.

Unless you know and can trust the dealer tech I wouldn't take his word for it. While there are plenty of very talented techs out there, none of them seem to be employed in my local area.

 

Interesting thread -- my daughter's 2003 A4 3.0l MT6 flashes a misfire code periodically, then it goes away. Gas mileage is pretty steady in the mid-20s and there is no stumbling. I have to grab the code myself the next time it lights the CEL, but she tends to tell me after it goes off. Re the A6 2.7T, maybe I'm just lucky (knock on wood), but I'm running all oem coil packs at 150k miles and never have seen a CEL.

 

Another fallen Audi ECU. This problem probably started happening shortly after your timing belt repair. Also I see coils fail on 3.0's but not like they would on 1.8's. At our shop we replace coils as they fail on the 3.0's.

 

I just wanted you to know that I am grateful to the folks who have posted on this thread. My 2003 A4 has been missing on acceleration at about 20 mph and at about 30 mph.Rather than dealing with the problem in its infancy, I waited until the check engine light came on and started flashing. I read about the symptoms and possible cures on the forum, and when I went to the mechanic, I was armed with knowledge. I told the mechanic that it might be the coil packs, and when he ran the diagnostics, Bingo!, that's what it was! Having one coil pack replaced has my Audi running like a new car again. Thanks again, I'm a fan!!!

 

TRY THINNER OIL (20w-40/50)

Qualification:

I went through the ringer trying to figure out what was wrong with the misfiring issue on my a4 with 220,000 miles... Just try much thicker oil
(20w-40/50). If your having the misfire issue make sure 1st check if your due for a timing belt 2nd vacuum lines 3rd try thicker oil

 

i had that same issue misfire codes 4,5,6 had to get new ignition coils for my 2002 audi a4 3.0 6spd... now its okay...but the check engine light came on a few months after i did it.. still rides smooth though.. but its an annoying problem.. gonna get it plugged up again to see whats wrong now... i swear sometimes i feel like i was better with a turbo audi v6 is too big for this a4
