Misfiring all 6 cyc_engine light flashes
Hi everyone,
Im new to this forum and new to owning a 2003 audi A4 3.0 quattro. I recently bought this car and already spent close to 3 grand due to timing belt replacement and majoy tune up. About a week ago my engine light came on and took it to european motors up here in san mateo city. my buddy chris (the mechanic) read and fouund some faulty or error on all cylinders, i mean theyre all misfiring. So i bought the parts and replaced all six including all six spark plugs hoping it'll fix the problem. Two days ago i took it back for another diagnostic because the engine light is on agian. Same issues all cylinders are misfiring with the addition of B1 S1 sensor..I mean what is going on with this car? The engine light is back on but this time flashing. It does this once a while is like the car choking or something. Can somebody help me please? I am in desperate needs of help. Please email me at gilberta_26@yahoo.com or here in the forum. What type of engine is this car anyways is it B6 or B7 or B what? Sorry I am really new to european vehicle.

The model designation of your car is a B6 A4. The engine is the 3.0 liter 6 cylinder.
What you're describing sounds like a massive coilpack failure in your car, Audi has issued a recall for this problem and you will get a full set of 6 new coils installed for free from the dealer. If you have replaced the actual coils (not sure if you did from your post or not) then Audi will reimburse you for the cost.
What kind of plugs did you buy and what did you set the gap to?
I'm not too sure about if its actually misfiring on all cylinders. The periodic cough you get is an indication of a single cylinder misfire...if all 6 were missing it wouldn't even stay running.

kinda ridiculous and shooting for the stars if you ask me
i'd want to know where you got your timing belt done...? If it wasn't the dealer......... i bet your timing is off.
Also i'd pay the 100.00 or so to have your local dealer scan the car. I have a held hand that most techs in local shops use for side work and turning lights off fast, and i can personally vouch for its inability to read every code that might be stored in the ECM. And there could be a fault not being read necessary for proper diagnosis.
First things first please, so far all the answers are completely off, including that ICM thingy. No offense to anyone who tried, I've seen this before and is usually the cam sensor. Please tell your buddy to give you the code that he's reading and post it back up here or do a google search.
I had a similar problem. It was a tank of bad gas. However, once I refueled, the problem went away. Just saying.
If one tank of cheap gas made you throw missfires on all 6 cilinders you probably will replace something soon. Just sayin.
