Default Muffler Shop vs Dealer for Catalytic Converters

A4 3.0 82,000 miles.

Needs Both Catalytic Converters replaced.........

Dealer quote $2849.00
Muffler Shop $1400.00

Major difference in price. Can I trust the Muffler shop to do as good asthe dealer? Is this a complicated task?

Thanks in Advance!

you need to call AoA and raise some hell! 3.0s are known for the cats to fail and 2000 miles after the warranty is out! thats bullshit!

i had an 03 jetta and at 62k i hit a pothole which deployed my drivers side airbags, of course the dealership told me to go eat a pistol, they werent covering it but i talked to VoA and got them to cover a $4k repair....

Still seems too high for a cats even at the muffler shop. I just got a quote for a friend of mine for her Toyota Corrolla, which came out to $370. That was'nt even the lowest, I got quote under $300 at Midas. I doubt 3.0 cats are that much different. You should definitely find a quote under $1000. Me personally I wouldn't pay more than $800 bucks.
