catalytic converters?

hum catalytic converters are expensive. You can go with the magnaflow generic ones if you got access to some good welder but I've heard stories of check engine light being on all the time and stuff like that.
I do know that cats for 2.8 up to 1999 are way cheaper than cats for 2.8 of 2000-01. My suggestion would be to go through some specialty sites for exhaust and get a direct fit one. An OEM will run around $250-300, but you can probably find ones for a little less.
when it comes to cats, you really don't have many options other than bitting the bullet and getting it from a reputable seller (non-reputable or "too good to be true" have this thing of selling you the converter without the catalyst!)
