Default need help with oil change

so I've just changed the oil, replaced filter and added 4 1/2 quarts of oil but no oil on the dipstick. I tried starting the car and let it run for about 2-3 min, turned off and let the car sit for a few minutes and still no oil on the dipstick. What the hell?

What engine do you have? 6 cylinder takes 6.3 qts. and 1.8 L takes 3.7 qts.

ok I don't get it. I've added 6 quarts of oil and dipstick is still bone dry. I don't think i did anything wrong, it was a simple oil change. I do see oil on the dipstick after i shut of the engine but if if clean it and put it back in after a few minutes, its bone dry. Any ideas anyone?

No oil puddles on the floor?

Let the car sit 5 minutes. It should at least be touching the bottom of the stick with 6 qts.

nope, I checked for leak and everything is all good. I did let the car sit for over 10min and still the same. Should I add more oil?

Oil filters will take anywhere from 1/2 to a full quart to fill. You need to figure that extra in when doing a proper oil change (oil and filter).

Actually the 1.8 engine needs 4.5 quarts.
