I'm looking into the same thing. I found this quite interesting: *** 034 Motorsport - Audi A4 B5/B6 1.8 20V Turbo KITS - 200whp to 550+whp ***
It all depends on what kinda power your looking to make, and how efficiently you want to put that power down. Sure you can go and buy some rediculouse sized turbo and make 500+ hp, but you sacrifice spool up for a bigger turbo. If your not planning on building a straight dragster, my suggestion would be to shoot for something that gives you the best of both worlds. If you really want to go K04, JBS's hybrid K04 with the right supporting mods could get you 300hp without sacrificing spool up, and without the 5k APR price tag.
As far as what you would need, you would have to start with a K04 exhaust manifold, and it would be a really good idea to get a decent FMIC. A good turbo back exhaust is a must, all wrapped up with a good tune would make for a really fun street car.

The first thing you gotta figure out is - what do you want your HP to be at the end of the project?
Once you figure that out, then you can start looking at Turbos. if your HP goal is too high it may also require motor work to keep you from blowing the engine.
Then the all important question is - how much $ do you have to spend?
A GT eliminator kit can get you good HP and won't require new rods. people sell them here and there used which would save you $
OR
you could just get a K04, slap that in with a Tune and supporting mods and get a decent increase in HP
OR
You could go ballz out and get a big GT Turbo, do motor work and get a Huge increase in HP

The power you can get out of a k04 is plenty, unless your building a race motor. stage 1 tune with a k04 can produce upwards of 20 psi. If you're trying to use it as a daily driver and get performance i would just tune, turbo-back exhaust, front mount intercooler, and air intake.

Exactly why I said A GT Elminator would get you good HP and not require new rods. A GT Eliminator isn't going to put him over 350 HP so new Rods would NOT be required. And at the end I said OR he could go Ballz out and do big GT Turbo and motor work and get a large HP increase.
Not sure where I posted something wrong?
