Default No A/C, no pressure in system

Hey guys,

I recently picked up a 2004 A4 1.8T and my A/C doesn't blow cold when I switch it on. I thought it was out of freon so I tested the pressure first and the pressure guage didn't move at all when I hooked it up to the low pressure line. I read around that there may be a bad switch but I can't find a definitive answer. Any help would be much appreciated.

No, no warning lights at all. It feels almost as if the compressor isn't coming on when I turn on the A/C from the climate control cluster.

If that's the case, wouldn't the temp gauge on the dash be going crazy?
