Default Cooling system pressure...

I'm still trying to cure an overheating 2.8.

Anyone know what pressure the V6 cooling system is designed to reach?

Thanks in advance...

Should hold 17-22 psi.

However overheating is likely caused by a failing waterpump or more liekly a failed thermostat.

Default RE: Cooling system pressure...

I have replaced all of the "stuff"... timing belt, tensioner, pulley, waterpump, thermostat, o-rings, hoses, etc. What I also replaced was an original and cracked coolant overflow tank. Well, apparently the one I installed (Meyle) is inferior to a factory original. In one month of 100 degree days, I've replaced it twice. It cracks, develops pinholes, and streams coolant. When I pressure checked the cooling system, I found the holes in the tank would leak at less than 10 pounds of pressure, thus my question.

I picked a new tank from the local VW dealer, and it is definitely a different molded part... much clearer and smoother.

My initial thought is anything but the "real" thing is inferior and prone to developing cracks and leaking especially in the Texas heat.

I'll post my results after another week of 100 degree days...
