Thanks James, I will take it to a dealer and check it. But as per an earlier post (same thread) from captian is that there is a recall on fuel pums, when I did a research on recall, I found that only 2003 A4 has that fuel pump recall. What about mine (2002 A4 1.8T).

Again I appreciate your guidance so far...

ORIGINAL: Audinick81

What kind of noise do you hear? Is it a ticking noise or buzzing noise or something else? I'm experiencing a ticking noise around the same place on my car as well... still I don't know what it is.
Ummm..... he said "squealing noise under the body close to the rear right wheel" ----I'd take a wild guess and say it was a SQUEALING NOISE!!!!

Post your problem with more explanation in another thread....

I am taking my car to a Audi repair shop in Maryland "Pro-Imports", I hope they can solve the problem without a big bill. I will update this post once I get to know about it.

Hey jairajvg, I know this is a shot in the dark, but I had a squealing noise and it was a piece of metal jammed in between my brake pad and rotor.

Hi James,

As update to this thread:

The technician has confirmed that the sound is due to a problem in fuelpump. He is going to work on this today.

Before changing the fuel pump have your fuel filter replaced and try it out that way. I had the same problem turned out to be the fuel filter. It was clogged making the pump work harder and making a noise. But if it is still there after the filter change I would look into the fuel pump...

Replace the fuel filter before you do anything else. The dealership will more than likely try to have you invest in a fuel pump to make more money; but the fuel filter should only cost you about $60 dollars vs. a 300-500 repair of the fuel pump. I had the same problem in my 2003 1.8t FWD and simply replaced the fuel filter myself and got rid of the problem immediately!

Here is the update, my car is at the workshop now, the mechanic says that it would could be a problem with the pump or the noice is due to some debries. The issue is: he says just to check if either of these two is the actual problem it would cost 3-4hrs labour. My extended warranty says they will cover fuel pump replacement and related labour but if it is just cleaning up debries then they won't cover anything, which means I would have to take care of the labour charges to cleanup the debries. If it is something very simple I would like to do it myself, but as the mechanic suggests it isa 3-4hr job, then... I don't know. Please suggest.
