Unhappy One new ECU, two original keys. Now what?

Hi guys,

I have a 2004 A4 Cabriolet.

My ECU got wet and I had it replaced. The mechanic tried to program the original keys to the new ECU, with no luck. I took the car home and searched for directions. I tried the directions I found on this forum but they didn't work.

In the meantime, the car is doing weird things. To name a few, when I unlock the driver's door, the passenger door stays locked. The glove box locks when I lock the car from the outside. When I get in the car and insert the key, lights start flashing. The trunk remote in the door works sporadically. I am assuming that the weird stuff is happening because the key remotes are not programmed.

I'm tired of the weird stuff and of having to unlock and lock the car manually. Any ideas on how I can get my key remotes to work again?

Thanks.

IIRC a dealership should be able to get them reprogrammed for you. I'd give the nearest one a call.

I know, but I was looking for a DIY solution.
Thanks.

We did it! Seriously, I'm not sure how, but we kept trying the keys and buttons in all kinds of different combinations. Suddenly, after about a half hour, it worked. We then were able to program the 2nd key from the first key. I think the secret is that whenever you turn the key and then press the lock or unlock button, you have to keep the key turned in the lock as you press the button.
