Opinions!
so my b6 a4 with 121xxx has given me nothing but problems to the point where I'm getting rid of it now. I've put more money into the car fixing it than what I've paid for it. I'm looking at a b7 s4 that has 86k miles for a fairly good deal but i don't want to be running into problems like i have with my a4.. would the s4 be a good idea or should i get a b7 or b8 a4?
If you can't afford/nor want to repair the a4, have fun with an s4 haha.
Edit: In all seriousness, if you find yourself not willing to fix the a4, unless the s4 is mint, I wouldn't do it. It will be more expensive to repair for most parts. Such as the turbos, you wont replace one, but you'll replace two with most having a price tag of 1000 minimum each.

the cost of the repairs are not a problem, its the amount of repairs that are, anything that could've gone wrong.... did. but the b7 s4 are not turbo its the 4.2 v8, are there common problems with them if you would happen to know? i don't mind getting a newer a4 i just thought a s4 would be a tad bit more fun haha
whenever you buy used you run a chance of buying a car that was heavily neglected and it will cause problems. i bought 3 used cars (non audis) and got BURNED badly on constant repairs and i have since vowed to always buy new. so if you want 100% peace of mind, buy new. take care of it (regular maintenance) and let any bugs that may arise get worked out through the warranty.
Oh damn sorry to hear ! Yeah my most recent purchase was based on fuel economy since gas prices are estimated to hit around six dollars a gallon where I live. Was looking at ford 250 powerstoke diesels but when the owner said, "Im not too sure on the fuel mileage, I've never had the money to fill the 40 gallon tank" I ran away haha
