Default PRND flashing

PRND flashes for a short time when I first start driving. Any ideas as to why?
Also my remote will no longer open my trunk, looking for reasons for this also.

More information please:

Year and FWD or Quattro, 1.8T or 3.0?

If it's a CVT is the Transmission Control Module, is like a 300 dollar part. Eventually is not going to work and it will jerk around until it doesn't work.

For your remote you probably need a new one, try changing the battery see if it works.

Now it doesn't flash, it simply goes blank for several minutes then returns and stays. As for the tranny I don't know which one it is since I haven't owned it that long. If I move the gear shift to the manual mode it shows 6 gears and I can access all of them.

yeah but is it AWD?

It might be the transmission sensor underneath the shifter.

Nope, just FWD. Driving it today it worked correctly for about a 30mi drive. When I went out and drove it about 1mi it started flashing at me. I can still get it to shift through all gears so I don't know what is going on.

6 gears in tiptronic mode = cvt trans. The flashing shift quadrant indicators mean that your TCM is faulty. It is expensive to have it done, and most independent mechanics won't touch it meaning it is a dealer fix. Have it looked at asap by your dealer

It goes to the dealer on Friday. If it is the tcm I am looking at having it rebuilt, I have found one site here in the US so hopefully they won't be too expensive. Somehow going without my car for several weeks is a major problem for me so I doubt that I will be using Audi's service for repair.

I think is about 200 bucks for that sensor thing. Is not the TCM, well it could be but is most likely the sensor on the leever. I forgot the name of it.

Well I am positive that mine is an intermittant connection. When I hit some large bumps in the road today the PRND light went out then came back a few minutes later. When I took some fast corners it went out again but came back on a little later. So I may not be as screwed as I thought. Hopefully.

It can either be the TCM ($2000+), or the shift sensor($200+). If you try and replace the shift sensor going off of a whim that it's the problem and it doesn't get fixed, than you are $200 in the hole already.

My local independent guy i trust looked at mine and was able to give me an honest answer. If you go into the dealer, they might possibly lie to you for the sake of making more money on the more expensive job. Keep that in mind, and good luck
