I have an A4 1.8T with about 80,000 on it. The power steering started to make noise while on a 3,000 mile road trip. Fluid was backing up out of the reservoir. System eventually ran dry out in the middle of no where. Kept driving without support. The pump was shot, probably from running dry. Replaced the pump checked all the hoses - no leaks. Bled the lines and the system was still making noise. Fluid is still backing up out of the reservoir. Reservoir movement seems violent - extra fast. Is this a problem with the rack or what?

 

I replaced the reservoir - $40 part. That did the trick.
