Default Question about Key Fob / Remote

I am thinking of buying a new remote shell for my key.

My remote looks like this:

Amazon.com: HQRP Folding Flip Key FOB Shell Remote Case w/ 4 Buttons compatible with Audi A4 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 97 98 99 00 01 plus HQRP UV Chain / UV Radiation Health Tester: Automotive

If i don't want a new keyblade cut, can i transfer the old keyblade to the new remote shell?

Also, around how much does it cost to get a new blade cut?

Thanks.

Has no one replaced their key fob? Or know the answer to my post?

I was actually just talking to the dealer about this and to get the key cut is around $20. Now if you need to get it programmed and they have to pull it in the shop then its another $120 but if they can do it in the parking lot they dont charge. Now as for just swaping yours in im not 100% on this but I think you can. The fob comes in two pieces, The key/ top half portion and then the bottom portion (see the line half way on you amazon pic... This is where it splits). When you buy a new fob from the dealer you buy both pieces and then have them cut and program it. This is what the parts guy told me a couple days ago. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Yeah, I saw that the key fob comes in two pieces. I wouldn't need it reprogrammed. All i'm trying to do is replace the shell as mine is all banged up. So I'd transfer the electronics to the new shell, but wanted to transfer the key blade as well (i.e., i don't need another key cut), so was wondering if it's possible to transfer the metal portion of the key blade only, to the new key fob shell...

i say u might still have to get it reprogrammed. But dont quote me on that. something to do with the immbolizer. I think they make rubber shells that just go over the oem key. They sell them on some sites i have forgetten where i saw them though. Maybe a quick google search may yeild some results.

Try giving your dealer a call and see what they say...

I transferred an old blade (blade and pivot piece) and immobilizer to a new fob years ago and it's still working fine. To get at the blade and immobilizer, peel back the Audi 4 ring sticker on the fob and unscrew the phillips-head screw underneath it. Pull the two pieces apart. The immobilizer looks like a small glass capsule. Be carefull removing the immobilizer as it is relatively fragile. I suggest practicing by first removing the immobilizer in the new fob.
