Just lately my fan has been making a really loud noise just after starting my car. It sounds almost like an industrial fan that's blowing really hard. The noise goes away after a few minutes. What could this mean?

Do you live in a really hot climate? Like the desert?
Its normal in temps over 100 degrees, if not then replace the fan clutch.

B6's don't have engine driven fans, its all electric. When that's happened to me, its been the coolant temperature sender. Bet you throw a CEL in a few days, if so, it almost certainly is. Luckily its an easy fix...

You guys sure it isnt the SAI? If it comes on at startup and kicks off when the engine is at temp, its the SAI (secondary air injection)
my 04 1.8t makes same type of noise your describing, audi guy told me about this before i bought the car on the test drive (SIA) it is probaly the SAI like the perivious post is saying

I just recently had the exact same problem. Not only would my fan kick on really loud right after start up, but also usually right when I'd arrive to my destination. Got the CEL, got a coolant temp sensor, got rid of problem. Yay for cheap and easy.

My 04 1.8t did this the other morning. It was COLD (for AZ) and the first time i have heard it on start-up. However, I have a code saying cooling system malfunction (used the v scanner). Temp gauge does not raise above normal mid point. My boosted performance from my chip has disappeared though...strange coincidence?
