Good question, pa4ul - if a previous owner replaced the rear seat with something other than the stock one, there may be a different latch system. Perhaps the latches/buttons/whatever are along the side of the seats rather than the tops?

yeah all the seats match perfect and no latches anywhere else

any evidence at all of a latch ever being there. Im just wondering as to how the seat locks in place without some sort of mechanism to hold it in place.

Could be that they release from inside the trunk - my GF's Nissan is that way. Obviously that wouldn't help the OP with his problem, but it's a possible answer...
