Removing temperature gauge from cluster

Removing temperature gauge from cluster
I have a 2004 Audi A4 quattro that I want to remove the fuel and temperature gauges from in order to install white gauge overlays.
I have tried the white clips on the back of the gauge but it appears that it will pull the arm from the spindle and leave the gauge face in the cluster.
Does anyone know how to remove the entire gauge from the cluster?
Thanks,
Robert
