Default revving issue, help!

Hey guys, I've been noticing lately that my 02 1.8t has been revving weird at highway speeds. While in 4th or 5th gear, if I press the pedal hard, the rpm's shoot up faster than normal, almost as if I'm in neutral before the car starts to accelerate. It has never done this before and has always just accelerated as soon as I hit the gas. Any ideas what this could be? Car is at 119k and as far as I know, it still has the original turbo.

Yeah, i just searched for bad clutch symptoms and it looks like you might be right. Does anyone know what the average cost to replace it should be? I have a dealer right down the street, but I know they would kill me in labor there.

I talked to a shop and they said it could potentially be the catalytic converter. One thing I noticed is that the rpm's only spike if I press hard on the pedal(now it's prevelant on all of the gears). If I press just hard enough to accelerate, the car speeds up no problem. Also, I have noticed a decrease in my gas mileage as well. Has anyone else experienced this with a bad cat?

I paid 1150 for my clutch job.

Test your clutch! Put it in fifty gear and from a dead stop, pop the clutch. If the engine doesn't stall then it's slipping for sure.

Tried it in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. The car lurched and died each time.

No! I refuse to believe it! Lol. You are probably right, but i'm going to check for codes this weekend just to be sure. There'a also a southbend clutch for sale(super cheap) pretty close to me too if have to go that route. If that doesn't pan out, any ideas on what clutch kit I should go with? I'd like to keep the price low as I'll have to have a shop install it. I've seen the Valeo kits for a reasonal price, and I don't plan on going any bigger than a K04 and chip. Would that kit last under that set up?
