Default Safe to Clean Engine?

Is it Safe to Clean the Engine?
Or is there a safe way?
I was thinking of using a pressure washer, but afrid that i might get water in electronics, the pressure of the water may damage pipes and cables or even unplug them. or getting water into the oil through the pipe which holds the oil dip stick

cover your coils alternator and ecu. Dont over wash ur car either. Just get some degreaser and let it sit and little scrub it then rinse with a normal flowing water hose.

Spray engine de-greaser on a warm engine and hose off. I have used a pressure washer (low pressure nozzle) to clean my engine but I avoid slamming the electronics. I also did a good pressure cleaning once and now just wipe it down after every car wash/wax. A clean engine makes finding leaks a lot easier. You might remove the engine covers (which pop out of rubber mounts) to make it easier to actually clean the engine.

why bother? i don't risk it. you have a potential for electrical shorts or stress cracking of the hot engine block.

The only problem i have seen from doing it is the coil packs will rust. Once they rust they tend to fall apart or they short to the cylinder head causing a super misfire. I would avoid the cylinder head area all together, especially with a pressure washer.
The ECM is sealed in a plastic box, and its sealed again inside the box, no harm there.

But after these posts it seems as if theres more risks then benefits from cleaning the engine.
