scared to death please help
hey all whats up new member here and already panicking. i just bought last week a 2003 a4 1.8 turbo with 41,000 miles and ive been reading the forums and google for general info and what to look out for. the one thing that ive been constantly running into is that alot of a4's with a CVT tranny basically goes after 50,000. im just wondering how do i know if my car has a cvt tranny because i have heard that not all a4s have it. it would ease my mind alot if i didnt have one regardless of how good it performs. right now or in the future i really cant shell out over $5000 for a tranny i just cant afford that. im ready to provide any info necessary if possible to you guys. thanks a million.
from my knowledge-
cvt tranny's use belts for one.
for two, you shouldn't be able to feel it shift as it has no gears.
have u seen that commercial a few years back where a man and a woman are in a uh i think altima, and they start driving, and there is silence? He then makes the different noises of the engine changing gears.
can u hear ur engine shift? if so you have a regular tranny and not a cvt.

Why do people buy cars that they cannot afford to maintain? It just doesn't make sense to purchase a car that you cannot afford to fix if something goes wrong.

HAha.... Just because he doesn't want to spend money on a new tranny doesnt mean he cannot afford the car....I wouldnt want to spend $6000 on a tranny... lol
