Default Service Indicator

Apologies in advance, but I don't have my manual.

My car currently has 49,900 miles, and my indicator says I have a service required in 700 miles or 185 days, which would be Apr. 1. Is that due to the mileage, or because it would be four years from some date I'm not aware of (the in-service date was some time in '05)? If it just had an oil change at 49K, would I need to do anything? Thanks.

You have to reset the Service light every time you do any kind of service to it...It doesnt rest by itself.

Thanks; I figured it was something like that. I just bought the car at a non-Audi dealer, so that's why it was done and not reset.
