Shifting tips please
Hi, I'm 18, Just bought my first car which is an Audi A4 - 2002 - B6
I'm wondering about the rpm's for shifting gear.
I usually shift at 1800 when I know I'm gonna keep it that way for a long time, otherwise I stick to 1200 - is this under the normal standars? I've played with a friend's BMW from 2008 and he's shifting at 3000 - kinda worried me.
Of course when I need power, I go up to 2500-3000 but usually I keep it above 1200 and below 1800.
Throw some tips guys, thanks!

I dunno, 1200 seems to low fo me at least, ifi drive slow, i try ti shift at like 1800 or so...
But it matters if you got 1.8t or 3.0.
If u got 1.8t, your turbo doesnt not kick in in full until 3000rpms.

the manual says not to shift below 1500rpm or you can damage the engine by bogging... and like protein said if you have a 1.8t, you arent even making full power till 3k rpm but at any rate you should shift by 4.5 or 5k with a stock turbo
look at your power band... the guys on www.tdiclub.com can probably show you some dyno's so you can see where your power starts to fall off.. wherever that is, you need to be shifting to get back in boost.... TDIs are different though, they make a lot of torque but not much HP.. i had a 03 jetti with Powerplus 520cc injectors.. it made power early but needed to shift around 3.5 or 4k

)) You are one of that small group over here who got tdi
