stutter during 0-20mph????
so my b6 is not manual sadly....its 6 speed multitronic....but recently when im accelerating there is a stutter i feel...it usually occurs once within the range of 0-20mph....and this is while it is in D.......does anyone know what the problem could be? thanks for any help or opinions
There are few TSB's(tech service bulletins) out for that issue with the multitronics. All of them point to the Transmission control module. They also state that it does not usually occur when in the tip mode. Depending on the mileage of your car the replacement of the TCM may be covered under warranty. Did you recently have the CVT tranny fluid replaced? If so it could be that the adaptation that is(should be)performed afterwards did not "take". If you haven't had the fluid changed and it has been 35,000 miles or so since I would definitely look into having it done. The problem is very common, which is why there are multiple TSB's out on it. I'd say get it remedied before it turns into something that could possibly be fatal for the tranny. I can get you more info on the TSB's should you like that way if your going to a dealer you can be better informed and thus less likely to be taken for a ride. When I called a dealer about changing my CVT fluid they quoted me $650-$850(which I think is utter robbery), so I instead bought a laptop and a true ROSS-TECH HEX+CAN USB so that I may change the fluid myself. Keep us posted and let me know if you want some more info on the TSB's. Would you mind posting the mileage of the car when this started to occur and whether or not you have had the fluid changed? Sorry to hear your having issues man, keep us posted.
Here you go sunnyshaida, tried to copy the full articles off my ebahn software but it does not seem to work. My printer is out of ink so I could not scan and then copy them to this post either. However, these headers are as listed from the TSB's themselves. Does not do you much good unless you contact dealership and ask them to give you copies of these TSB's, or search for them online. I tried googling them but to no avail.
37-08-01 Vehicle shudders prior to stopping; possible MIL on (DTC P1773/18181 in TCM) (January 4, 2008)
37-07-14 Multitronic transmission adaptation won't set (July 27, 2007)
38-08-01 No drive or delayed drive in "D" or "R" (DTC P1743/18151 may be stored in TCM) (Jan. 10, 2008)
38-08-04 Vehicle shudders when accelerating from a standstill (April 24, 2008)
38-06-02 Bucking When Accelerating from a Standstill (Oct. 12, 2006)
37-06-06 Bucking When Accelerating From a Standstill (Jul. 5, 2006)
When you ask for them to provide you with the TSB's(if they will) you would simply reference the particular one(s) you are seeking. For example; you would say to the service department that you are interested in seeing "TSB 38-08-04 Vehicle shudders when accelerating from a standstill. Released April 24, 2008."
Wish I could be of more help but this should at least give you a place to start. I would guess that the tranny fluid had been changed at least once through the dealer with the previous owner as it should have been covered under the new vehicle maintenance program its recommended every 35,000 to 40,000 miles and that at 70,000+miles you are simply due for another fluid change. I would not continue to drive the car until it has been serviced though because if it is simply the fluid needing a change and the TCM to be adapted you may very well cause significant damage to the transmission that will not be able to be corrected by a fluid change.
Call around to reputable shops who have dealt specifically and I can't stress this enough, specifically with the CVT transmissions for our cars. Its a pretty involved procedure that requires special fluid solely for CVT transmissions and for the transmission control module to be adapted for the new fluid. If one were to use regular ATF the transmission would be destroyed in short order.
I was quoted from the Audi dealer $650-$850 to change the fluid while a VW dealer said if I provide the fluid they would do it for $250. So there are going to be variations of the cost to have it done. Like I said in my first post that first quote convinced me to purchase a Ross-Tech HEX+CAN so that I may do it myself. I haven't yet, no rush for me the car is parked for the winter. If you find someone who can do it, make sure they have experience with these cars. Its not your standard automatic tranny.
Hope this helped some. Keep us posted.

Wow that helped alot I really appreciate it...it also shudders before I stop sometimes...the only problem is I'm a college student so I don't make alotta money and I was laid off and just barely started working so money is an issue I guess I need to find the cheapest way to get this done
Well in that case this particular TSB is the one that has your answers.
37-08-01 Vehicle shudders prior to stopping; possible MIL on (DTC P1773/18181 in TCM) (January 4, 2008) It describes the shuddering from a start to just below 20mph and then shuddering again when stopping.
Sounds like the cause is faulty or clogged valve body in the transmission. You may get lucky and find that the repair through the dealer is at a minimum to possibly free charge due to the issue of the particular TSB I mention above. Feel free to press them a bit as I'm sure even if they are supposed to do it at a reduced or no charge, they likely will not make it known to you and try to get full payment. Not sure of that, but its possible. It is a very serious and possibly terminal condition your tranny is in now. Service it immediately.
If you can, try to find someone local to you who is an Audi enthusiast with the proper tools who may be willing to barter or trade you for work performed. If you drive it til the tranny goes its about $7900 dollars to replace it. Not very many shops will even bother with rebuilding them. If you lived in central minnesota i'd gladly help you out as I have the triple square 3357 special tool and the vag-com to do it.
Post a thread in the forum to see if anyone lives near you who may be able to help you out.
Again if what you need to do is buy a $300 dollar beater to drive until you can afford to have it serviced suck it up and do it. Do not drive the car any further until you service it. No joke man its gonna cost 10 times as much if you do.
I should also note sometime during the production of these tranny's Audi recognized their design flaws with the valve bodies and switched to a revised version mid-production. It's their fault, treat it as such.
Good luck.

well i called a local audi dealer, and he was saying on my model it was recommended every 40,000....so i got to talking about the price and he said they would do everything changing the filter, gasket, the flush, and resetting the control module for about $500....what do you think?
because the shudder before stop only occurs so often and the shudder when accelerate from a standstill....these occur less than more of the time...but im thinking at 72,000 miles im gonna need to do this tranny flush soon anyways
unfortunately i live in soCal so i wouldnt be able to use your assitance
