Default symphony radio removal, damaged clips?

I am trying to remove a dead factory symphony radio from the Audi I bought last month, to replace it with aftermarket. I *DO* have the removal tools.

I insert the tools, all four click, but the bottom ones, soon as I let go, click again and then slip out. They are getting rather scratched up as well, so I suspect the clips on the bottom sides of the radio are damaged/broken, causing the tool not to actually pull them into the unit.

Considering this, what is the next course of action? Can I easily removal the panels going beside the radio, and push them in from the outside?

You will not be able to remove the radio with just the clips, you need to stick your hand on the back and push the radio out with the keys in place. You can do that by removing the glovebox or the kickpanel under the steering wheel
