Default Taking Cat Out????

i was talking to a couple of guys and they had told me that i can run straight pipes right to my magnaflow exhaust. By taking the cat out i thought it would mess up the sensors and the car wouldn't run right.. has anyone herd of doing this to an audi?? i have a 2005 a4 3.0.... They said my exhaust would sound even better and i would gain a little more HP nothing crazy but a little more...

There is no taking the cats out of a 3.0L. If you look at the O2 sensor set up you will see why. You would have to make a custom set of down pipes and flanges to mate them to the cylinder heads, that or just hallow out the cats. This WILL cause a check engine light, but it won't affect any engine performance. Will it make the exhaust louder? Yes, will it raise the horsepower?......Not enough to warrant the effort.

P.S. 3.0L cats are some of the hardest in the world to remove, and you can quote me on that.

I have hallowed out a set of cats on a 3.0L, but it was for a car without state emmissions. I put a couple of spark plug non foulers (spacers) between the O2 sensors and the pipe to reduce the chance of the check engine light coming on, but its not full proof. He still has to clear the codes every 500 miles or so. The only thing it really did to the car was make it rediculously loud.

so.. that would set off the check engine light for a 1.8t too? If so is there any other alternatives to paying for a whole exhaust? If not how much is a whole magnaflow exhaust?

Its way beyond your mechanical abilities trust me, you need and engine support tool, a transmission jack attachment, and an extension longer than you leg. Master mechanics cry doing 3.0L cats. Just eliminate the center resonators, and replace the rear mufflers with a set of magnaflow mufflers, it'll sound great.

The resonators are basically mufflers towards the center of the car, should be easy enough to cut out. I would still have the exhaust shop weld in a pipe for you though. Once its done it will sound much better if you already have magnaflows installed, the stock resonators are super restrictive.
