Default Timing Belt Kit Question

I'm looking at buying a timing belt kit and I don't know which one is better or has more parts included that I most likely will have to replace. I figured I would ask what some of you think. Should I get the kit from esctuning.com (http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_A4-...Timing/ES4708/), or the one from Blauparts (http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=GH21119-A). I'm not looking at the price, I just want to know which one is better in your opinion, and which one has more parts included that I will have to replace as I stated before. Also I would like to know what is missing from the kit that I should definitely buy.

Thank you for the input.

I can't tell you about the Blau kit, but I've installed a bunch of the kits from ECS on various Audis and they've been great. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend those to people.

Did you buy some extra stuff for this kit or just the kit ?

The ultimate or ultimate plus kit was comprehensive. Basically you want one that includes hydraulic tensioner, tensioner roller, any idler rollers, timing and accessory/serpentine belts, two bottles of G12 coolant, and water pump. You didn't name what engine you have but on the V6 B5 kits, a thermostat is also included.

My bad... I have B6 V6. BTW Thank you for the help. One question, did you use Valve cover gaskets ? Do I really need it ?

They're not part of the timing service. Look below the edge of the valve covers. If you see signs of seepage, you need to replace them. Or pull your spark plugs and see if there's oil on them. If so, replace them.

I got my spark plugs replaced last night and my friend who is a mechanic for a local shop said that they are clean, no oil... but he also said that the last spark plug #6 (I think) had some sign of small drop of oil. I might just replace it. Still thanks a lot for all the help.

Just finished finished changing my timing belts on my 3.0L last week. I used the step by step do it yourself tech information from this site as well as the instructions from Blauparts. I think they together make a good set of instructions. I would get the Blaupart kit because you want the tool kit you can rent for $50. This kit comes with valve cover gaskets and you want to change them because they are brittle. Also order a thermostat, timing belt tensioner dampner, serpinetine belt tensioner, air filter and spark plugs. You are right there and you might as well change these parts as well. I order the extra parts from ECS tuning. The job is not that bad with the instructions.

For how long does Blauparts lets you rent their tools ? another questions... Are the instructions for changing timing belt are located in DIY part of this forum ?

The rental for the tool is for 1 week, after that it's $10 a day. If you go to Blauparts and look at tool rental, the site explains it all. Regarding instructions for the Timing belt change go to http://www.audiworld.com. Under tech, then engine, you will find DIY timing belt change instructions.
