Default Trying to fix CEL

Hi
My wife has a 2003 Audi A4 Cab 3.0 CVT. The check engine light has been going on and off for a little while. The car runs good. No hesitation, good acceleration, no smoke, etc. Took it to a friend that has a scanner and he pulled code P0340. Camshaft position sensor(A) Circ Incorrect Allocation. Timing belt was replaced at the dealer at least 20k miles ago. I have a new cam sensor, but im not sure which one is throwing a code since this code only points to bank A. Do i need to get a scanner specifically for VW/Audi to get a more specific manufacturers code? Do i need to get a CANBUS scanner for this Audi? If i do buy a Audi scanner that has canbus and obII, will it work on other vehicles? (I have two other GM trucks) Any suggetions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Neal

you can get ELM332 cable on ebay for like $15-20 and itl work on most cars. or you can get an ebay vag-com cable for same price and will work on VW- group cars(depending on what cable you find dictates what years/models)

Go to Ross-tech.com and download the free version of vagcom, and get the cable mentioned above. Then you'll have the right scan tool.

As to your question, it's the passenger side. That's bank A, or bank 1, and the driver side is bank B (bank 2).
