V-Belt & Timing Belt ?
Yesterday, I started my car & heard a noise & the red battery light indicator appeared on the dash board. While pulling out of the parkiing space I noticed that I lost power steering . I drove home which took approx. 10 min. while turning off the climate control & radio. I knew that it was a belt that popped off, just not sure which one. After reading the manual it stated that if you loose power steering, its the V-belt. At first I thought the v-belt and timing belt were the same, obviously not. After looking under the hood I found a bearing at the bottom of the engine cover & the v-belt was off the tensioners & rollers. Long story short, Audi told me that the timing belt is not visible from popping the hood & the v-belt is at the front of the engine, between the engine & radiator. I had it towed to EuroTech in Baltimore & they were honest enough to tell me that the v-belt had come off because the tensioner roller had lost a bearing. They will check all of the tensioners & bearings & advise me tomorrow. Thought someone may find this helpful because I checked the forum & found nothing on v-belts but alot on timing belts.
I'll keep you posted.
