i removed the valve, removed hoses, then cleaned and inspected. it looks pretty good - no visible cracks, so I reinstalled the valve.

I've seen quite a bit of info that states icm is no longer used on a 2003 A4 1.8T and the item is an ecm.

the part number i found is 8E0909518AF and also comes at a price.

In the interim i will keep checking my vacuum lines and check with a salvage yard for a replacement ecm.

ok yea my bad on that icm. I actually had to replace a module on my car if u check the classifieds on vortex or audizine or audiworld u might come across a part out and they can sell u the module. Just make sure your numbers match theirs.

Default update - easy start cold/difficult start hot w/extreme misfires

While I was in Austin this week I called my Audi service manager to discuss misfires on my A4. The manager suggested that i replace my engine temp sensor... I thought why not, as it was only a $37 part. today I replaced the item, dropped and lost the snap ring and wasted over 3 hours searching for it... I never found it.

after a fruitless trip to several auto parts store back home in Kingsville i decided to make a retaining clip using medium gauge steel wire. I tied sewing thread to secure and retrieve the clip in the event that i might drop it (i did and was happy i had).

I took it for a test drive - i felt many misfires. I was using VW/Audi coils and kept getting solid & flashing cel... Apparently the coils are fouled.

I pulled the coils and replaced with previously used coils from a parts store...
engine still had an occasional misfire, but runs much better. so i replaced #2 coil with a new one i carry for emergencies.

Now the car runs great, no misfires, no cel...

Pa4ul,

...and thanks for the assistance. FYI i found the gal at the service desk in North Austin to be quite helpful. In times past I have had some helpful communications with her.

thanks!
