Shop told me my valve cover and cam seal is leaking. I'm losing about a quart of oil every 5,000 miles. (my light turns on basically the week I get my oil changed at 5k)

I found a few DIY's for the valve cover, but does anyone know of a really in depth one? I'm not the best with cars, but I feel like I can tackle this one.

As for the cam seal, I also looked up videos for that, looks hard as hell and too much work for me. Does anyone have ideas on what to try or what to start on? I've heard some people loosen the bolts for the valve cover and then just tighten down again and its fine. I'd rather replace it though to be safe. Any information on either of these would be great or workarounds or things to look out for.

For your valve cover, use this video. I know it's kinda long and it's a Toyota, but he does a good job and walks you through the process.
If you don't want to use that, this one is on a VW 1.8T but he doesn't get into as much depth and it's kinda hard to hear him.
As for your Cam Seals. In my opinion, you're pretty much boned on that unless you really know what you're doing. Hope this helps.

 

Always replace the tensioner gasket & seal with the valve cover or you are just wasting time.
