Default water problem no heat!!!!

HELP!!! we have recently about 6 mths ago replaced the head and head gasket as our head had cracked. Since thecold weather as arrived we have realised our heating does not work. We took it to a vw and audi specialist who said it would be some switch and thermostat?? £120 he then rang a few hours later and said the problem had not been fixed. He said that we could change the water pump and timing belt to see if this fixed it - bill was £400. When we collected the car we still had no heating. He advised us that the head and gasket may be the incorrect size or fitted incorrectly and said we should take it back to the garage that did this 4 us which we did.
The other garage said that the head and gasket r ok and that they may have to dig deeper looking into the engine to fix it which means more diagnostic and more money!! Am i being ripped off??

well if your arent receiving heat then its either your water pump your core is clogged or the flap isnt opening or your temp switch. I really dont know whatelse it could be?" Dig further in seems they already dug and couldnt find nothing. I tell them to do the work for free since they gave you the car back and said the problem was fixed.
