Default What should I look for?

Hey guys, ive been looking to buy a b6 body style S4 or A4 and i came upon a nice 2003 A4 6spd 1.8T. It has 142K on it and i was wondering what i should be looking for to go bad or check over other than timing belt and water pump.

Any advise on this or whatever you got, thanks in advance!

With these cars it is important to make sure that all of the maintenance has been done, or you will end up spending a lot of money to fix it. With this many miles make sure that it has had the sludge problem fixed (recall) along with the coil pacs.

The car is 6 speed so it wouldnt be cvt either way.

At that mileage you are looking at timing belt job #2, id do it right away for peace of mind. Def look underneath and under the hood for leaks. Other than that there isnt really a lot you can look for. Maybe pay a mechanic to check it out.

The cvt shows 6 speeds in it's display so yes it could be a cvt.

Well, i really have no way to verify that as i dont have a cvt and specs dont list a cvt with "gears" or "speeds" since they have neither, but i thought it was 5 like the quattro autos from the same year.

Either way, when someone says "6 speed" they mean manual.

check near the firewall for signs of previous leaks. (white staints coolant flange) (brown sludge valve cover gasket or actaully all the gaskets could potentially leak) Fluid at bottom of the car after a hard drive and i mean drive it pretty hard to make sure the engine wont break down the first time u actually get up on it.
