Default Whining fuel pump?

2004 A4 Quattro.
I have a loud (in the cabin) whining eminating from the back seat area. I'm thinking that this is probably the fuel pump.
The whine doesnt change pitch with a change in RPM's.. it is constant.
Opinions please...

As far as i know, it suppose to make the sound under the load. does it make that sound at idle? Try to touch your fuel lines, if they are shaking- that would be either filter or pump (or both).

Well I would say you might need to change the fuel filter it may be blocked up a little making the pump work over time or it's already killing/killed the pump.

I just ordered a fuel pump for mine today. It was doing the same thing. I am pretty sure the pump is going bad...

What year is your car? There was a recall for 03 models (not every). Call AOA or any dealer, give them your vin and see if your car under the recall. If yes, they have to replace your fuel pump for free.
Also, try changing your fuel filter, that might be your problem + it is much cheaper to try. Cause it is better to change the filter with a new pump anyways.

before changing bunch of money on the fuel pump, try getting a new fuel filter. I have 120K on my car and this happened to me twice already.

I had this happen on my 03 1.8T a few weeks ago. Changed the fuel filter and all is ok. Change the filter before you assume it is the pump. Parts guy at the local stealership told me this noise is supposed to happen to indicate the need for a new filter?

My car makes a whining noise too, but it's only when the tank is at about 1/8 full. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard it's a royal pain in the *** to diy the fuel pump, almost to where you wouldn't even want to try it.
