the driver's window on my '04 A4 started making a grinding noise going up and down and sometimes jamming. Thanks to some posts here I was able to pinpoint the problem right away.
Took the door panel off and found out that the window regulator's cable is tangling up which seems to be a common problem for audis.
My question is, do I need to buy the whole window regulator or do they selljust the cable alone? And if so, should I buy at the dealership? Everything else seems to bein working order

 

buy whole regulator, cable can not be bought and neither can the spindle.

search for genuine audi parts on google for a good online retailer. should cost you about 100 bucks

 

If your A4 is a Certified Pre-Owned car, the repair will be covered by the manufacturer. All you have to pay is a $50 deductible. I had a window regulator issue myself... the rear passenger window clips broke due to a bad regulator... so I took the car to the local dealer, paid the $50, and got the car back the next day.
